Have you ever wanted to copy an Application icon to use on a blog, website, graphics application or even on a video project, as I have done on many of my video tutorials.
Using Finder and Preview you are able to do just that.
Next click the small icon here and from the Finder menu bar, Click Edit and Choose Copy or Use the keyboard shortcut Command-C.
Now, from the Applications Folder…Launch Preview, then from the Preview menu bar, click File and choose ’New from Clipboard’ or the Keyboard Shortcut Command-N.
You will notice a variation of sizes for the Automator Icon.
Now click on the icon size you wish to use and then on the Preview menu bar, click on Edit and choose ‘Copy’ or the keyboard shortcut Command-C.
Finally; from the Preview menu bar click File and and choose ’New from Clipboard’ or Command-N once again, and voila… the Automator Icon is ready for saving in format of choice.
So, after giving the file a name, it’s time to choose the file format. By default, Preview save files in TIFF file format, to choose another format, simply click here and to see more Press and hold the Option while clicking here again.
It's important to understand that when saving the Automator icon in any other format but TIFF or PNG, it saves the icon with a white background. Whereas, TIFF and PNG preserves it's Alpha channel, in order words...Making it Transparent, where the Background is removed.
After choosing format of choice, press Save, the Automator Icon Image is ready for use on your projects.
And That’s all there is to it,
