AirPlay iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch to a Mac using X-Mirage

November 18, 2013

It's not often I make an impulse purchase, let alone not testing the trail version first, but given the
price on offer from deals.cultofmac.com for X-Mirage, a Mac App that wirelessly mirrors your iGadgets, like iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch to your Mac and available for only $8.99 (normally $16). Apparently, this is a limited time offer from deals.cultofmac.com and ends in 6-days as of time of writing this post.

Basically; X-Mirage turns your Mac into an Apple AirPlay receiver (AirPlay Server) and essentially mirrors anything on your iGadget screens to your Mac screen. Yes, there are other Mac Apps offering the same features like AirServer and Reflector, but I found X-Mirage simple to use with few lags when playing graphics intensive games.

(Please note, I'm not associated with deals.cultofmac.com or an affiliate partner of X-Mirage in anyway, just wanted to let you know of this great deal (limited time offer) from deals.cultofmac.com.

TRANSCRIPT:

In this Episode, I'll be doing a quick review and demo of X-Mirage, a Mac App that turns your Mac into an
AirPlay Receiver and let's you Mirror your iGadgets, such as your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch screens via. AirPlay in 3 Easy Steps.

In essence, X-Mirage allows you to play games, watch videos or run apps in standard or full screen mode
and not to mention being able to record your mirrored iGadget screens, independently or simultaneously on
a Mac.

AirPlay iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch to a Mac using X-MirageSooooooo.....Let's Get Started!

Step 1: Download and Install a trail copy of X-Mirage from X-Mirage.com ....(Show web download site clip) The trail copy last for 7-days, the mirroring will disconnect your iGadgets after 6 minutes each time.

Step 2: Launch X-Mirage, found in the Applications folder, You will be presented with a Welcome screen,
either proceed using the trail version or enter your serial number if you have made a purchase. The people at X-Mirage have done an excellent job by displaying the necessary steps to follow on the welcome screen in order to connect your iOS 6 or 7 devices.

Step 3: Connect your iGadget(s) via. AirPlay as shown on the welcome screen in step 2.

And that's all there is to it...your iGadgets is now connected (Mirrored) via. AirPlay to your Mac.
(Incidentally, for X-Mirage to work, all your iGadgets including the Mac has to be connected to the same
network).

Once connected, I was able to run and mirror all iOS 7 apps on my iPhone and iPad to the Mac with a couple of minor issues, firstly there was some intermittent lag when playing some graphics intensive games, in my view, playing games on an iPad gives a better experience, I found that I got a better performance by
connecting my Mac to an Ethernet cable.

and secondly,....

when previewing Photos, the pinch and zoom function performed on your iGadgets cannot be mirrored to the Mac, apparently it's an iOS problem and the developers at X-Mirage have addressed this issue with Apple.

In conclusion, I found X-Mirage to be an excellent Mac AirPlay Receiver that is best suited for Teachers,
lecturers, App Developers wishing to showcase or demo their apps, not to mention, producing how to
tutorials or review videos.
