TRANSCRIPT:
Access your Recently Used Items, like Applications, Documents or Servers, from the Dock instead of the Apple Menu, as shown here.
In this quick tutorial: How To Access Recently Used Items From The Dock
Sooooooo, Let’s Get Started.
The default location for accessing your recently used items, is by going to the Apple Menu, or in other words, click on the Apple logo and select Recent Items.
If instead, you would rather access the Recent Items from the Dock, as a Recent Items Stack, simply launch Terminal and type or copy and paste from a saved Text document, the following one line command:
defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-others -array-add '{ "tile-data" = { "list-type" = 1; }; "tile-type" = "recents-tile"; }'
Followed by:
killall Dock
command, to relaunch the Dock.
As you can see, the Recent Items , is now shown as a Dock Stack and displaying recent Applications used.
Incidentally, you can add additional Recent Items Stacks to the Dock, by repeating the Commands, and from the Dock, control or right click on the newly created Recent Items Stack and choose a Category that you want displayed when clicked.
I’ll choose to display recent Documents for the second stack and Servers for the next, as shown.
To control the number of Recent Items listed, Launch System Preferences and click on the General icon and from the Recent Items dropdown list, shown here,
select the number of Recent Items you want displayed, from none to 50.
To Remove Recent items Stacks from the Dock, simply Drag it off the Dock as shown.
Finally, to clear Recent Items, simply click on the Apple logo and from the Recent Items selection, click, Clear Menu.
And that’s all there’s to it. Accessing your most recently used Applications, Document or Servers right from the Dock couldn't be more easy.
