TRANSCRIPT: In this Episode: How To Password Protect A PDF File.
For added protection, you might find a need to encrypt or password protect a PDF document, either for business or personal reasons.
Using Preview, I’ll demonstrate how to add additional files to a PDF document before password protecting it.
Straight to a demo…Soooooo, Let’s Get Started
Assuming you have a PDF document that you want to encrypt, simply open it using Preview.
I’ll just open a PDF file named MySecretPDF for this demo.
As mentioned earlier, I’ll also add some additional PDF and Image files, that I also want to be kept secret.
On the Preview window, click on the View Menu drop-down list button here and then click on Thumbnails.
Now simply drag and drop the files to be added to the Thumbnails sidebar.
Once that’s done, the next thing to do is Password protect the MySecretPDF file.
From the Preview menubar, click on File and scroll and click Print… or simply press the keyboard shortcut, Command-P
Now click on the PDF drop-down list button here and select Save as PDF…
Then click on the Security Options… button shown here.
This will open the PDF Security Options Window.
Check the box here to Password protect the document and enter a password and again to verify.
Optionally, check the boxes here to password protect when copying text, images and document and also when printing a document.
I’ll just leave them uncheck for now, and click the OK button.
Finally; click Save and then the Replace button to encrypt and overwrite the existing MySecretPDF file.
Once the MySecretPDF file has been encrypted, you will notice that the new PDF icon is shown with a Padlock on it.
Delete the unprotected files, as you already have them in the encrypted PDF file.
Now; whenever you try to open the encrypted PDF file, you will be presented with the following screen, simply enter the password created earlier to open it.
And that’s all there is to it.
Thanks for watching and thumbs-up if you liked this video, and please, don't forget to subscribe to be notified of the next Episode.
Thanks and Peace.
