TRANSCRIPT:

In this Episode, How To Avoid Triggering Hot Corners Accidentally

Briefly, Hot Corners triggers an action whenever you move your mouse to a corner of your display.

Basically; you set a shortcut for a particular action like launch Dashboard or Mission Control from the pop-up menu shown here and assign a corner you want to use and the action is activated when moving the mouse pointer to the corner you chose.

Triggering Hot Corners accidentally using the default settings can become frustrating or even more, an annoyance.

For example, when bidding on an item on eBay or working on a project, the last thing you would want to happen is any interruptions by triggering off the Screen Saver or putting the Display to Sleep.

This can be overcome by assigning the following modifier keys such as the Shift(⇧), Control (⌃), Option (⌥), Command (⌘) or combination of these keys when activating a particular Hot Corner action.

This is best illustrated with a demo.

Sooooo, Let’s Get Started

To assign a particular modifier key or combinations of these keys to Hot Corners, launch System Preferences and click on the Desktop & Screen Saver icon, then click on the Hot Corners… button here.

Now, while viewing the pop-up menu, simply hold down one of these modifier keys, the Shift(⇧), Control (⌃), Option (⌥) , Command (⌘) or combination of these keys to activate Hot Corners.

I’ll just choose the Option key to activate the required actions to perform when moving the mouse pointer to the selected Hot Corners, you can test your chosen actions while still in the Hot Corners window and once happy with your selection press the OK button.

And that’s all there is to it, assigning modifier keys when launching Hot Corners couldn't be more simple.
