How To Update Apple TV Software

If you’ve been following along, welcome back to episode 2 from Series 1 of How To Get The Best Experience From an Apple TV 3rd generation. In this episode, How To Update Apple TV Software.

Therefore; continuing from Episode 1, after setting up the Apple TV, by whatever option you have chosen, all setups leads to the Apple TV welcome or home screen shown here.
Getting the best experience from your Apple TV is making sure that you are running the latest Apple TV software and as of May 8, 2014, the latest confirmed software version for the Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation) is 6.1.1 which was released on April 22, 2014

To perform a software upgrade, I’ll be using the Apple Remote to control the Apple TV settings and navigate to your content.

The Basic buttons on the Apple Remote is as shown here. One cool tip, to turn off the Apple TV, simply press and hold down the Play/Pause button for a few seconds and you will notice the light on the Apple TV go off.

So will the basic Apple Remote controls understood, it time to show how to update the Apple TV software.

So….Let’s Get Started.

Updating the Apple TV software is a relatively easy process.

From the Apple TV Welcome screen, and using the Apple Remote, scroll right to Settings and press Select, then press Select again on General and scroll down and Select Software Updates.

Now Select Update Software, this basically checks if a Software Update is Needed or Available.

As shown, a Software Update is available.

Simply press select on the Download and Install Button and the Update Procedure will will begin.

I’ll just time lapse it from here, my update took about 8 minute with 3 auto reboots.

Once the Update is finished you are presented with the Apple TV welcome or home screen.

To check the Update version of the Apple TV software simply Select Settings…then General and then About….As shown here. As you will notice the Current Apple TV Software version is 6.1.1

And that’s all there is to it.
