Yes, it's been only 3 years since Apple Inc., unveiled it's first generation iPad on April 3, 2010.
Since then, there has been three more generation iPads, making the latest as the Fourth generation plus released at the same time, the iPad mini both released on November 12, 2012.
Number of units sold as of October 2012 totals 100 million.
The desktop computer environment has never been the same again.
